Clinton City Schools' Elementary Summer Reading Program

L. C. Kerr, Butler Ave., and Sunset Ave. Schools are sponsoring a summer reading program called “Explore New Worlds: Read!” To participate, rising kindergarteners must have 20 books read to them.  Students in grades 1-5 must have read 20 books or 4 chapter books with 60 or more pages.  Reading log should be filled in and returned to your school office by August 31st.  Each child reaching his/her goal will attend a celebration in early September at their respective school.  


Visit the J.C. Holliday library to find a children’s room with lots of great books!

Queridos Padres,

¡Esperamos ansiosamente las vacaciones de verano!! Para motivar a nuestros alumnos a que lean,  y sigan leyendo, las escuelas L.C.Kerr, Butler Avenue y Sunset Avenue están ofreciendo un programa de lectura en el verano llamado: “Explora nuevos mundos: ¡Lee!”.  Para participar los alumnos de Kinder tienen que haber escuchado de sus papás las lecturas de 20 libros y los alumnos de 1-5 grado deben leer 20 libros o 4 libros de capítulos de 60 o más páginas. Adjunto encontrará un registro de lectura que debe ser completado y entregado a la oficina de la escuela  el 31 de Agosto. Cada niñ@ que haya logrado su objetivo asistirá a una celebración a comienzos de Septiembre en su respectiva escuela.

¡Visite la biblioteca J.C. Holiday para encontrar una habitación para niños con muchos libros geniales!

Sunset needs EOG Proctors!

Sunset Avenue School is seeking volunteers to support our students and teachers during this year's End-of-Grade assessments. Proctors assist by monitoring students as they take their tests.

*Proctors must be 18 years of age or older.
*Proctors must be able to stand for an extended period of time.
*Proctors will need to attend a training session before testing begins.

Breakfast will be served each morning as our appreciation for your service.

Testing Dates: May 25th (5th grade Science), May 30th (4th and 5th grade ELA), May 31st (4th and 5th grade Math)

EOG Proctor Training Dates are as follows:

May 15
9:00-9:30
1:30-2:00
5:00-5:30

May 17
10:30-11:00
3:30-4:00

If these times create a scheduling conflict, training can be done at a different time.  Please contact Ms. Malcolm for details.

Ms. Lewis, a 5th grade teacher at Sunset Avenue, was presented with school supplies and recess equipment this past week.  She won a contest that was hosted by SRMC's Center for Health and Wellness.

SMS 2017-2018 Red Carpet Premiere Night for Rising 6th graders

Good Evening, this is a message from Sampson Middle School to cordially invite Parents and Students to the 2017-2018 School Year Red Carpet Premiere Night on Tuesday, May 16th from 5:30-7:30. Please come out and meet the Teachers and staff for the upcoming school year and ask any questions you have. We will have Summer Reading books available for sale, First Come, First Serve! and Pizza, will also be served. Please come out and take advantage of this great opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Also, Students will have the chance to enter their name into a drawing, and a lucky student from each grade level will receive their school supplies and a backpack for the 2017-2018 school year. We Hope to see you all on Premiere night and hope you all have a Great Dark Horse Evening.

EOG Night is Tuesday, May 9th.

Parents we will be having our annual EOG Parent Night on Tuesday, May 9th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. 4th and 5th grade teachers will meet with parents to discuss our upcoming EOGs and to answer any questions you may have about testing.  This is a very informative session that will give you tools and information to help your child be ready to knock out the EOG!  We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday Night. Pizza and drinks will be served immediately following the grade level presentations.
